12-1 lighting experiment

I read in the November Skunk magazine about the 12-1 cycle. For those who don't know what it is, its for VEG with the lights on 12 hours, off 5.5, then on for 1, then back off for 5.5 hours. From what i read the plants are supposed to be more compact with very minimal stretch when flowering is initiates and also produce more compact, dense buds. The article also talked about saving even more energy by during the 12 on cycle the lights every 30 mins on/off (.5 on, .5 off x12 - then 5.5 off 1 on, 5.5 off. I'm very skeptical about the latter though. I'm going to give it a try on my new grow that is about to be underway. Has anybody had any experience with this photo period or can point me to a few threads i can read up on, I searched around but pretty much just found people flaming and no useful info at all. My goal is to design an extremely efficient grow room without sacrificing quality at all.

I'm going to post a journal up in a little bit

I'm veggin my clones under it. Works for me. It show more hairs an what not but it doesn't produce flowers until you change the cycle.
