1000w HPS + Aerogarden + 2 Easy Ryders

Well, due to a kind of messed up situation in the greenhouse I call my basement my autoflowers ended up with a tent all to themselves. I started these off with the standard aerogarden lights in my bedroom just as an alternative to a house plant, however once I put them under the 1000, magic happened.

I haven't really been able to find anyone else who has combined the aerogarden with such a powerful light, so I figured I should at least post pics for those who are curious what it can do under such ideal circumstances....

That last picture was taken March 4th, I plan on taking some more soon however I have a terrible problem with not documenting things as well as I should.



On a side note, I need to flush these puppies pretty soon, however the roots have become so entangled with the inside of the aerogarden that I am scared to pull them out. Any advice or words of encouragement?

might be a bit late now but i modded my aerogarden, drilled two small holes in the very top left of the res and sealed em with bungs and ran my airtube through 1 for my stone and another that i plug a 10 dollar aquaium pump into to transfer the res out? had to have minimal movement as im gnna be 1 armed lol, just bung the end of the tranfer hose in the res with a filter, small 50 cent air stone works perfectly, and a one way valve on both externally, lotta ppl forget these but you do need em!
other than that i know a guy that fitted a valve to the oem pump and used that but again that needs doin b4 hand...
syphon it outta a central spare hole, jiggle syphon for petrol bout 4 bucks at an auto store?
shit im full of ideas lately lol too much spare time

MMM patient: My compliments on your grow, it's beautiful. Roots can be a bitch but I'll pass on a tip Aerogarden's customer service gave me, "You can remove the spars. The roots usually wrap themselves around them and make it next to impossible to service the reservoir." Their rep went on to say, "They're strictly designed to help the tank keep it shape during the manufacturing process and shipping." I removed mine about a year ago and I've had no problem with roots since. It's a lot easier to service the unit with out them now.

You might also want to consider putting a lady's short nylon sock, the kind they wear with flat shoes, around your pump and tower to keep the roots out. They also sell pump socks at the hydro store for $10 to $15 but the short socks only cost about $2. The pump filter won't keep much out except maybe boulders but the combination of the two seems to prevent the roots from getting into and ruining the pump.

I'm not in favor of drilling any extra holes in my unit because of the danger of getting plastic cuttings/shavings into the pump. Also you can end up with light getting into the reservoir and starting an algae bloom. Most of the hoses we use are clear so even if you seal it with a rubber grommet you're likely to get light in. I run my air stone hose right in through the front door and the light leakage is minimal.

hsa-im not a moron and my tubing is black, the holes are on the side not top an as i mentioned you do the drilling BEFORE this stage ie when not set up/growing, no need to have the pump anywhere near the res to get any plastic in lol. i also made an extended grow surface for mine out of mylar covered styrofoam, seals the res from light and heat in my growspace...

Yea, I had been considering removing them, however by the time I decided it was a good idea the roots had very well entangled themselves.

I built up the courage yesterday and just went for it. To my surprise I really don't think I did any damage to the roots, so that's good.

And I am going to avoid making modifications to the aerogarden mid-grow, however the ideas are appreciated!!
