1000W Dimmed to 600W vs. 600W

Guess I'll try posting this here.................
Building a small 24 cubic foot grow cab.....not willing to go back to the 400W.....wonder if anyone has first hand experience with this little question......

Which runs cooler? A 1000W HPS bulb dimmed down to 600W? Or a 600W HPS bulb?

Or if anyone has the two bulbs, dimmable 1000W ballast, and the time to run this little experiment on their system.....

I have a 1000W Galaxy ballast with the 1000W Hort that I plan on dimming to 600W....just wondering if the 600W Hort would be cooler on the 600W setting.

I was wondering the same.And started to question whether a 1000w bulb built to produce the right spectrum with 1000w runnin through it may not produce the correct spectrum with a dimmed ballast,say at 600w.I dont think the manufacturers will have made sure it holds true spectrum with such a different amount of juice powering it.Have been unable to get a definative answer from anywhere solid.I do know that some of the long established bulb manufacturers wont warrant a bulb if they know it has been underdriven by a digital ballast should it fail.
Thoughts anyone?
