1000 water tripping a 15 amp breaker

Question for my friend

He has a 1000 watts and a exhaust fan on a 15 amp breaker which is tripping after 30 seconds of turning the light on. Why would this happen? I run the same wattage on my 15 amp breakers all the time with no problems. Would it be safe to tell him to just switch out the 15 breaker with a 20?

Thanks

Theres got to be a issue. I would not continue to use that line.
Perhaps theres other power draws on that circuit perhaps theres issues with the wiring itself.

There is most likely something else drawing on that breaker. If not , like already said there may be an issue with the electrical.
Do NOT switch out a 15a for a 20a as both require different wiring and receptacles.
I would not plug that 1000w back in until figuring out what is wrong.

Cheers :)

Thanks for the quick replies. I don't know shit about wiring but I knew that wasn't right. He has a 600 that I was lending him for vegging so for now I will tell him to stick with that.

I would figure out was is wrong and fix it before using that breaker to run anything.

Cheers :)

Try the offending light on a different breaker. Likely the breaker has other loads on it or it's defective. If the ballast trips another breaker and is the only device on that circuit then it could be defective.

NEVER. The 14 gauge wire is not rated for a 20 amp circuit and will be a major hazard if a 20 amp breaker is used. You require 12 gauge wire for a 20 amp circuit.

Thanks, I've past on the information to him and he is going to have an election friend come out and take a look. For now he is running a heavy duty extension cord from another room on another breaker.
