10/10 Flowering

So I was reading about mercury vapor bulbs and I read that they are powerful enough that you could actually revert to 10/10 lighting, tricking the plants into a 20 hour day and shortening the flower period by 20% with the same results. I assumed this would work for any system powerful enough. Anyone tried this or heard anything about it?

Yea I've heard of this. There's an article in the grow FAQ about it, I do believe. Very theoretical, but I could see the logic behind it. It'd be awesome to give it a shot. Make it a nice public experiment compared to 12/12

Mercury vapor bulbs are the wrong color spectrum thats why that havent been used since the invention of hps for gardening. I have a couple 250 watt mercury vapor light still laying around. They dont give off much light intesity but if your looking for some I have 2 250 watt setup, ballast bulb and wired cord Id sell them for $50 plus shipping for the set other wise Ill probably end up using them as garage outside lights.

I'm not sure why that light would make the difference. I think you could do it with any light (mh or hps), as long as the plant is getting completely saturated with light when it's on. Like what you would normally consider overkill for a grow. Then it's just a matter of keeping the 10/10 schedule...which wouldn't be easy because timers are clearly not meant for that type of thing. You may have to manually set the timer each day...which would make the timer almost useless.

plants have evolved over millions of years with a circadian rhythm of 24 hours in a day (this is not a human-made convention). any light cycle that doesn't add up to 24 is experimental and should be attempted with caution.
