Stealth Cab Grow - Seeking YOUR Opinion!

Hello!

I'm new to the forums and new to growing, but I've done a ton of reading so I am learning more and more about stealth cab growing each day. I am thinking about converting a cabinet into a stealth grow op and would really appreciate your thoughts.

Please take a look at the pictures I have posted. If I go through w/ this set up, I plan to on scroging autoflower seeds (I have many quality AF seeds from attitude).

Pic 1 = cabinet that I am referring to. Dimensions are 26.5 inches tall x 35 inches wide. Each shelve is 8.5 inches tall, w/ a little bit of rounding.
Pic 2 = part 1 of 2 of my cabinet plan
Pic 3 = part 2 of 2 of my cabinet plan

Here's my questions:

1) Do you think I have enough room to have a grow container and CFLs within the 8.5 inch space?
2) Do you think I will be able to grow the plan horizontally by tying it down? I'm new to growing so I have no clue if this is possible. I'm thinking that by growing horizontally I'll be able to utilize the length of the cabinet, which will allow me to mitigate the lack of height issue.
3) If I install the computer fans as the plans show, do you think that will allow for enough air circulation from both a heat management and plant health standpoint?
4) Is there a big difference between lining the interior with a reflective material versus painting it white with a semi gloss paint?
5) I know that there are ton of posts on this, but I'm feeling lazy. Is it easy to set up a charcoal filter over the top two PC fans?
6) Do you think I could fit two plants on each shelve, for a total of 6 in the cabinet? I'm trying to seed to harvest in this bitch.
7) In your expert opinion, do you think this will work? I'm not looking for huge yields and I am well aware of the CFL versus all other lights debate. Just looking for enough to sustain myself and feed my hobby grower desire.

THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR YOUR THOUGHTS! I fucking love this site. stay high

Aye I had a quick question for peoples stealth grows.... Is it really all that stealthy to do it in a cabinet or a dresser? I cant imagine having guests over and they go to open a a cabinet or a drawer only to find out it doesn't really open. Idk I just always figured it would look suspicious and not worth the effort.

you've got a point there but this cabinet is in a storage room that is in an unfinished room in a basement. I envision putting locks on the cabinet doors, and it will rarely be seen by anyone else due to the fact that its in the storage room.

A while back i had the same idea that you have with this setup. Unfortantly i do not believe that it will be all that good with yeild. AF are not good with yeild to begin with, and only way to even make this possible would be to use small pots. If your putting this in a room that cant be seen normally i suggest just getting a grow tent.

I think it will be too much of a tight fit. The pot itsell will take up some height, as will your lights, leaving very little room for the plant to grow

You can buy larger PC fans if you need to. I have some that are about 7" diameter and pull a ton of air with about the same noise level as smaller fans. When you buy fans, look for the amount of air it moves, and decibel level for noise. There are some really noisy fans that move about as much as a light breeze if you pick wrong. I had to comparison shop on Amazon for a while.

Reflective mylar reflects 90-some percent of light and white paint reflects about 70 percent. I read that a while ago so those numbers are probably wrong but you get the idea. In such a smaller space I'd do mylar to get as much light going around as possible.

If you don't veg the plants very long and keep them small you could probably fit two.

Get some soft ties from your local garden store or somewhere, I use the heavy duty kind. It's foam covered wire. You could just use regular string for doing the LST, but with these you can loosely wrap them around the buds once they get big and bend them away from lights. You can spin the buds so they get light from all sides. Basically they let you shape your plant however you want without hurting it. Just cut them the length you need and tie the down to something. I put a small screw in the rim of my plastic pots and wrap them around that. Someone from here gave me that idea, can't remember who but they work great.

The beauty of this plant is it generally lets you do whatever you want to it. Force it to work in that space. Good luck, keep us posted. bongsmilie:peace:

Excellent input. Thank you!! Do you mind sending the link to the 7 inch fans from amazon?

I've decided to go with taking the top shelve out to make a tall and short chamber, with the intention of it being flower/veg, respectively. Even though they will have different purposes down the road, I'm going to try to grow a plant start to finish in the lower chamber just for shits and giggles.

It'll be fun and I'll definitely keep updates coming!

Get the small T5's and mount over the top, they are very bright ;) Just use very loose soil such as Coco Coir :fire: And be sure to tie the branches sideways as flat for a bush !

Yo man I haven't started growing yet but have read A TON of websites and information, and if I had that cabinet I would knock thos shelves out, put a board in between and have a veg and flowering station!

Yea what the poster above said. Shelves gotta go. That'll be such a headache trying to grow in 8.5 inches. I can't imagine. It'd be hard to find a pot short enough, and then you'd have to train it sideways. It'll take a lot less work in the long run to cut those shelves out and have 1 nice chamber. Trying to multi-chamber something that small is probably a bad idea. That said, I've seen people do some pretty crazy things. Good luck! ♥♥♥

Thank you to everyone for your ideas! I'm nerding out so hard with my excitement about this project. The yields probably won't be great, the outcome won't be perfect, but it will definitely be fun and a learning experience.

So I started tinkerin last night, and I definitely have to cut the shelves in order to get them out so I want to be sure before making a final decision. Question for all of you out there: do you think it is pointless to keep the bottom shelf? I was thinkin of setting up the bottom shelf as the seedling growing area, the top right section of the cab as the flower, and the top left as veg. Is the seedling space worth the space, or would it make more sense to just use all of the space for the veg/flower chambers?

Thanks again!

Just a quick update: I decided to take both shelves out. I figured that the additional space will go a long way. Here's a picture of the cab w/o the shelves. I have one of the shelves dividing the two sections. I think I'm going to go ahead and nail the shelve and make the two separate sections light proof. After contemplating the multiple options, I'm going to go with a pro grow 180 or 260 in one of the cabs, and cfls in the other for the time being. I'm expecting that temperature management should not be an issue with multiple pc fans running in each section.

Let me know if I'm going wrong anywhere with these plans! I cannot use HPS or any other externally ballasted light with this set up.

The box is still coming along! I've been on a long vacation but all of the necessary materials will be waiting when I get home. I expect to have the box set up for use in about a week. I'll definitely post pictures once it's up and running

So I ended up converting a lower cabinet to the grow space. It gave me much more room. I have a t5 lamp in the back running supposedly 10k lumen and a 135 watt lighthouse led. I had an additional t5 lamp but it was very crowded with two. It also broke so I had no other choice.

I have two pc fans running on the right wall - one in, one out. I'm using smart pots. Temperature is steady at 75 and humidity ranges between 40 - 45.

Does anyone have any suggestions for improvement?
