I did not know that I was suppose to plant the seed cracked side down, and The root was out of the surface growing long and skinny, so I dug it up and noticed the little leaves were buried!!!! LOL but I planted it right and now its growing great!!!! now tell me how dumb I am

I dont have the seeds, i might not even grow due to the feds. but if i did. this is how id do it. can this be done? get seeds, plat in a cup in fertile soil, water and put it under a regular white soft bulb.... like 5 inches away. would it grow?
