This guy?! ^^^^ WTF?! I really can't answer your compost question the best, but for the carbon filter you should be good to go with it for about a year or so. I like to replace mine every other grow though just to play it safe. It's a small price to pay to help ensure my security. Hope this helps.

I'm not sure where you're located, but the 4 Canna retail shops in my area were all still carrying the BioCanna line and BioTerraPlus soil as of today. I did hear about the fungus gnat issues with their soil, but I've also heard numerous other stories from friends using FFOF and Roots Organics...
