Keep it simple, make sure your ph is always within your preferred grow range, and make sure the ppm never gets over the max of what your feeding target is. Never let DWC bucket get below 40% level. Do this and your babies will be fine, just like mine:)

You almost certainly want a PPM/TDS meter if you are growing hydro. With soil its not really necessary if you just follow package directions from your nutes and/or don't over do it on feedings (unless you are trying to follow a specific formula or for logging) When I grew soil I never used one...
