i know that if you are near the end of the flower cycle then it means its ready. The hollow stem shows that it is no longer moving water or nutes up the plant. It will still survive of the nutes and water in the leaves but i would cut soon.

I would guess that if the trees leaves are covered in spots it is actually some form of fungus not insects. Large trees are often affected with tar spot which is a fungus that is purely cosmetic and will not hurt the tree (or your grow).
