400 is indeed better, U probably don have an inline fan yet since u were veging with CFLs. But if you get one of those then a carbon filter and Ur smell problem is gone. 4" is gotta be enough for a 400 hps.

yI used the hanging stripes, but didnt completely take care of it. So when I transplanted I throw away the top 2 inches of soil I had my plants in, Thats where they live and lay eggs, I sprayed clorox and bleached out my room,(walls floor everything), closed all outside access, never had them again.

get a 10 dollar scope, look at ur trichs, they can guid u better than anyone else here. Harvesting too early or too late will effect the potency and the type of high u get from the bud. It didn't matter if you knew the date when U started flowering since ur not even sure about the strain. But...
