Even if you were right and quality LEDs only lasted 4x as long as traditional HID lights, and if you were right that $12 per month were all you would save in lighting costs, you're ignoring the biggest cost savings in your HVAC setup. Both in the initial investment and monthly cooling costs. But...

Do a cost benefit analysis. Most growers will recoup the upfront cost after a few grows. More yield with fewer kilowatt hours = $$. Got my HGL 135 assembled for just over 200 bones.
