Does it dry up? Will it lose power over time?

A local paper in Minneapolis did a story on synthetic pot. Being able to not be detected in a drug screen is a plus but the article said the sources of brands like K2 and others are questionable as far as potency of batches and what chemicals are actually in them. Is it safe to smoke this stuff?
