on average how long does it take for a seed to germinate? i have 6 seeds germinating, and they have not shown any signs of germinating in 3 days, except for they have turned a real dark color, some look really dark brown and others look black, and all the stripes and designs on them are gone

im 3 days into seed germination, however, when i plant i dont know what lighting to use until they sprout, ive heard many diff things, does anyone have a good light schedule that has worked for them before sprouting?

i planted about 10 days ago in a closet, and my plant is about 6 in tall, i was looking at anothers plants and his look the same on the top but are only about 3 in tall, do diff. kinds vary that much? and if i dont know what kind of seeds they are, how long should i wait to start flowering?
