yeah, if you didn't do a counter-tie at the base of the stem near the soil, you risk pulling the roots out. just tie it off 180* opposite of the way you have them bent over. make sure it's not something that will cut into the stem as it grows

i used some of those activated carbon pre-filter sheets. they seem to be doing fine, although the plant hasn't really smelled much yet. and they also work fairly well at blocking light. but look at some of the diy carbon filter threads. the ideal stuff is the pellet-type of carbon you can find...

any pics of your cab? i'd use either a sawzall or dremel (depending on how thick the cabinet wood is) to cut the holes. for light sealing, google 'diy light trap' and you can make one yourself. for the exhaust, if you're using a carbon filter (either bought or diy'ed) that should be enough to...

i don't know a place on earth where pearlite naturally occurs in the soil...and it seems to have made it this long just fine. ;)

i got a digital pH meter...i've come to the conclusion it sucks balls. i also have a general hydroponics pH test kit with pH up/down bottles. that one, while less precise, gives a better reading. no more digital crap for me

northern lights are supposedly pretty low odor. get an air freshener/de-odorizer and buy/build a carbon filter. you should be fine. smell hasn't been an issue yet...but i'm guessing in the next week or so it's gonna start to get funky
