What lighting should I use for 2-4 plants that are autoflowering, meaning they skip the veg stage altogether?

I am new to growing and was wondering if hps lighting is really necessary for 2-4 plants. I don't want to use them mainly because of the extreme heat, but are they really worth it when it comes to the final product?

Yo Mane, Would a 250 wt hps system be okay for the homebox xs as long as I have the active exhaust. I don't want to burn my house down, but I also want the best product and hps seems to deliver that from what Ive read.

I just picked up a homebox xs and I was wondering if it would be safe to use a 250 wt hps light with an active exhaust. My main concern is overheating, but since I live in a cooler climate I feel like it wouldn't be that huge of a problem. Being that the box is only 4 ft, I figure a lowryder...
