Perlites bad for living soil? That's the first i've seen this. I thought perlite was completely acceptable for ROLS. I recently switched to 2/3rds rice hull and 1/3 perlite for my aeration.

And that's exactly why i included it as well. We used to foliar spray sulfur regularly but that is tedious, time consuming and kills my predator mites, so I went with a soil recipe that includes both gypsum and langbeinite

Well that's good news and will make transitioning much easier. I can keep using the age old bottled nutrients as needed until i'm fully transitioned to ROLS

I’m hoping the living soil and the oyster shell will handle my buffering. Mainly want the gypsum for calcium and sulfur nutrients

Thank you guys for the responses. I wish I could find the thread where I originally saw this. I think it was referring to the salts commonly used in bottled nutrients. It certainly sounds like it’s not an issue though, so I may have just imagined it!

I’ve read multiple times that a lot of bottled nutrients can kill the beneficial microbes in living soil. I’ve been feeding age old bloom and grow and am wondering if this is one of the ones that will harm living soil? https://www.planetnatural.com/wp-content/uploads/age-old-bloom.pdf

I don't want to stray too far in someone elses thread, but i'm curious. Did you guys move away from ewc when you fell in love with the chicken manure or are you using both? Do either of you use insect frass? I'm using a mix heavy on ewc with a fair amount of frass

I plan on using gypsum as a soil amendment. I've found prilled and agricultural grade soluble gypsum. Is one better than the other? Im mainly wondering if the soluble will wash out of the soil faster making the prilled a longer lasting option. I may be overthinking it ;)

Do you have an opinion on dry chicken feed vs soil amendments? I haven't heard of making leaf mold. I'll have to look into that. Thanks for the input!
