I suggested raising the lamp for the sole reason that the room looks like its not ventilated and a small closet. 400 w put out a hella a lot of heat, thats probably why the soil dries so fast. Jack Harer- do you agree with the high temp hypothesis? And a mere fan might not be enough to cool...

Id say that the lamp is too close. Probably why the leaves curl.. Try to get some good ferts from a hydro store near you perhaps? But e2 feet is killin hot grab a few cfls and put them close until you can cool it off or what have you. You got this!
