Jiffy pots are actually used throughout the grow. When you transplant - you put the whole pot into the dirt. The roots will grow through the pot and into the soil. As the pots take moisture they will dissolve. If you plant them just make sure the pots are fully buried

Sounds like two problems to me. The pics show signs of spider mites. Look through a loop or magnifying glass you`ll see the ugly mothers. The flying insects could be thrips. Thrips come in the dirt- they remind me of knats - little black fliers that seem to be everywhere. Cures SPIDER MITES...

I use a 15x Peak lupe about $20. It`s large enough to get a good look at the surrounding leaves. It gives a very clear picture of the tri`s color. On your plants - they look good - I would also give them some more time as the tri`s look a little sparce.

I have used earth grow potting soil from Home depot a couple of times. It is very cheap - about $4 for 2 CF. It is just potting soil with some chips in it (bark?) same as most, but the PH is around 7. It seems to work fine but dries out rather quickly.
