Can Algae in ebb and flow hurt my plants?

I have found that the green algae will slow down growth a little. If you add a little Algaefix (found at just about any store that sells fish, like petco) Totally safe and works wonderfully. To stop the algae use a panda-film cover over your tray or panda-film squares over the rock wool

    Hps cheap

If not a horror story at least a sad story. I bought 8 (1000 watt) ballasts from HTG supply. Over the first 3 months I had 4 burn out. I called them and they sent replacements. Within 3 more months the other 4 originals had burnt out. They sent 4 replacements only these were old and battered...

    Wal Mart Joffy Pots

Jiffy pots are actually used throughout the grow. When you transplant - you put the whole pot into the dirt. The roots will grow through the pot and into the soil. As the pots take moisture they will dissolve. If you plant them just make sure the pots are fully buried

flooding 3 tables with one rez

I have a different train of thought on running multiple tables off one res. I run 2 4x8 tables with separate reservoirs. The reason I do this is illustrated by my last grow. One of my tables (late-flower stage) started having problems - the plants started drying up (literally turning crispy)...

    Help!!!!tiny yellow spots attacking me!!!!

Sounds like two problems to me. The pics show signs of spider mites. Look through a loop or magnifying glass you`ll see the ugly mothers. The flying insects could be thrips. Thrips come in the dirt- they remind me of knats - little black fliers that seem to be everywhere. Cures SPIDER MITES...

    California Conundrum

Interesting discussion. As many have stated before - legalization would be great - unless you are making money on your grows _ then it is problematic. My opinion on cost going up or down is based on who will be calling the shots. The gov sees weed as a cash cow. Here in Oregon they are talking...

    Need Help Plants Keep Dying!!!!!

I was having the same sort of problem. I use a dome and a 4 bulb tec- light. After very low success I thought about what had changed. Turns out the 600 watt MH I have over my mothers (4 feet higher and 4 ft away from clones) was leaking light on the clones. I blocked the light to the clones...

7 Weeks Flowering Pics! Need help

I use a 15x Peak lupe about $20. It`s large enough to get a good look at the surrounding leaves. It gives a very clear picture of the tri`s color. On your plants - they look good - I would also give them some more time as the tri`s look a little sparce.

    Is this bud mold?

Too bad dude - but we all go through it. The bright side is that once you dial it in and find the cures - you`ll find the problems early and it will only be a nuisance instead of a kick in the balls

    green light?

I keep a green bulb in the socket above my grow. I have done this for years with no detrimental effects. It is a small wattage bulb. I find that there are times you need to go into your room when the lights are off - I top off my reservoirs just before the light cycle starts as their first...

Do i need osc fan on all the time? low temps problem.

The major benefit of air flow is to exchange the air around the leaves. I have heaters on a thermostat in my rooms so the plants stay warm when the lights are off. In my separate clone room I use one of those stand alone oscillating heaters (about $20.00) with a built in thermostat - works...

something is alive in my soil

I use Schultz Garden Safe insecticidal soap for mites. It is available at Home Depot for about $5 in concentrated form. I have found this stuff to be a godsend. It is totally harmless to the fruit and people. It can be used right up to harvest. Comes in handy when you get mites at the end of a...

Best soil choice from Lowes or Home Depot?

I have used earth grow potting soil from Home depot a couple of times. It is very cheap - about $4 for 2 CF. It is just potting soil with some chips in it (bark?) same as most, but the PH is around 7. It seems to work fine but dries out rather quickly.

Bug Infestation Neem didnt work. DoktordDoom?

I agree with tilemaster. I used to always have thrips and had 1 spider mite infestation. Really bad news. I heard about Hot Shots and started using them. I change them out every three months and have not seen a mite or thrip in 8 grows. I have also recommended them to friends with reoccuring...

Any single (male) cultivators from SoCal out there?

Having been a single father of 2 boys for the last 10 years (parents on the east coast) I was surprised at how many actual single fathers there are - not in name only. There is an interesting paper written by Institute for Research on Poverty/University Wisconsin-Madison called Myths About...

Changing from Metal Halide to HPS

The height of your light depends on wattage and air flow. If you use a fan - you can lower your light a little. Putting your hand at the top of your plant will tell you if it is too hot, but I use a little digital thermometer hung on a string from the light to the top of the plant. They only...

    Will the power company notice

I run 8-1000s - two ACs -two tech lights - 1- 600W - 6 oscillating fans - 3 inline 8" fans and other various power consumers including elec heat. Last year I had cause to talk to the power company that included a review of my past bills. The elec co reps only comment was - "you sure use a lot of...

Stupid AC unit question, but please help anyways

One thing you may want to watch out for is too much cooling during light off cycle. The lights will generate enough heat that you will have to set the temp low. When the lights go off the temp can drop a lot (my rooms can drop 20 degrees). Putting the AC on a timer can help, but some ACs reset...
