I grew in a similar sized space for years. Yeah, you need to get the heat out of the closet so it doesn't just re-circulate to your grow. Flexible dryer hose is cheap and works well for getting air from one place to another.

The reducer would be a possible problem point - When I said "As long as your vent hose is not bigger than the sewer pipe, you're pretty golden", I was assuming the same size vent hose from grow to sewer connection. Putting reducers in can create higher air velocities and pressure problems etc...

I also reuse my soil. I add ~25% new soil to each batch that I recycle as well as add some compost, some more perlite. I usually only do this 3-4 times before I toss the batch in my vegetable garden and start over.
