i've had a lot of luck in soil, hydro is a bit more difficult if you don't learn everything before you start because then the problems just build. i'd deffinitely reccomend soil so you get used to the plants before you have to get used to the process of growing them.

you can dump distilled water in your soil plants with no problem at all. or just get a bucket of water from a hose. hold a cup of water outside when it rains. unless your water's ph is INSANELY HIGH you shouldn't worry about it when watering unless you're growing in hydroponics. then you should...

don't worry too much about it, you could drape a light tarp over the top if you had to and it should keep most of the frost off. i'm sure you'll get some great buds off of her, it's your first grow? that's awesome, it looks really really good.
