Repotted. What a mess. The root ball was dense, but not, in my limited experience, overly so, but a lot of the perlite had migrated to the top. Maybe it's just a wimpy plant. I'll see if it made a difference in a couple days, I guess.

I upgraded my 400w with an Apollo 600w with adjustable output, a cool tube, hangers, a timer, and two hps bulbs off ebay--mega low mart--for $141. It has mixed reviews, but it's been working fine for about a month.

I used the cheapo Milwaukee ph600 last year and it worked pretty well. I let the probe dry out during the offseason, and while I did feel the earth rumble a bit, I'm using it again this year. It still seems to work pretty well. Go figure.
