    when you top it's better lower nutrient strength a bit , roots transfer same amount of nutrient used for whole plants and cause nutrient burn , also overfeeded leaves show nutrient deficiency , if everything was ok before topping and you feed same. that's my guess.

    Do you have picture of your plants ? coco is better then soil if you know how to work with , it's natural ph is huge benefit in my opinion
