yeah incandesants are bad for light, they emit more heat than anything else. HIDs are the best route if you have proper ventilation and all but CFLs will also do a good job :D

yes your plants will def be healthy with good cfls, although they may not be as dense if you dont use HIDs unless you stay on top of keeping the lights as close as possible to the plants without touching them :D

a diy cooltube will do wonders to help keep temps down, before i made mine i had similar issues, but now i am able to keep my 400w hps less than six inches from the top of my plants and my 2x2x6 grow room never goes above 78

high temps at night could lead to more stretching, i have a 400w hps with a diy cooltube and i can keep it within 6 inches of the top of my plants. oh i just noticed hps for vegging does tend to cause stretchier plants. an MH would be a bit better :)

i guess this would be a personal choice, but i think depending on your height restrictions by growing bushier plants with more nodes you get more choices of where to clone as opposed to a taller plant with less nodes there would be less choices :)
