I heard a rumor that if you keep the water PH slightly Alkline it has a better chance to be female. Is there any truth to this? Or is there anything that can be done to have a better chance to have a female besides buying the feminized seeds?

Can anyone tell if this is a male for female. Flowering about 8-9day Is it to early to tell? I see some round things that have me worried :-(, are these balls or beginnings of buds? Do I have to wait longer to tell? I only have 2 plants and both look like this. (Full Moon)...
