    Fact or Fiction?

I'm a closed mind because I want evidence and not a bunch of anecdotal dogma? If wanting more than hearsay makes me closed minded then I along with every other scientist and engnieer would also be closed minded by your definition. I don't know where you came up with "all you have is book smarts...

    molasses in hydroponics??

I completely agree with these statements. I've gone round and round debating this topic and there is no peer reviewed white paper to support the molasses claim.

    fan running time

Welcome to the forum! I have the fans controlled by the light timer. Whenever the lights are on the fans are on. Some people have more sophisticated set ups that take CO2 levels, temperature and humidity into account and may cycle the fan but with a simple set up just run them with the lights.

    Fact or Fiction?

Not a problem man! Here's another Wiki link to help clear up your confusion. Anecdotal evidence - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia In science, anecdotal evidence has been defined as: "information that is not based on facts or careful study"[2] "non-scientific observations or studies, which...

    Fact or Fiction?

I understand the concept quite well. Soils already have the fungi and bacteria in them unless the soil has been sterilized. If you have to much bacteria or fungi, however, then they'll start competing with the plant for resources. This was the conclusion of the scientifically peer reviewed link...

    growing with headlights?!

It's possible but probably not very practical. You'd need a high current 12 volt power supply to make them work. There's other lights that one can use without being a car part thief.

    Fact or Fiction?

Please, try what you want. I'm not trying to start a pissing match but you need to understand that "anecdotal evidence" is an oxymoron. Also, the research does not need to be made on pot plants.

    Fact or Fiction?

You're appealing to negative proof which is a naive and foolish logical fallacy. I'm not trying to be a dick, but it's hard not to be a smartass. The other logical fallacy is assuming that one needs to reinvent the wheel. That's why we scientific types rely on other people's peer reviewed...

    Fact or Fiction?

Yes, but we want to use the scientific method (look it up) in our experiments so that we have empiricism rather than anecdotes or so that we are playing a bunch of guessing games. Claims are worthless without evidence to back them up. A lot of people have tried the power of prayer, for example...

Somone that uses molasses, please help me out

This is why I mentioned that anecdotes should not be confused with evidence.

Somone that uses molasses, please help me out

The problem is that by radically boosting the bacteria in the soil, which you will do by adding carbohydrates to the soil, is that the bacteria will then start competing with the plant for nutrients causing a nutrient lock up. Also, the sugars will throw the osmotic pressure in the root zone off...

    How do these look?

I started off a decade ago throwing a bunch of plants in the same container and it turned out to be kind of a pain in the butt. You'll likely get no additional yield trying to do this. Beyond that your seedlings look very healthy.

    Fact or Fiction?

It's been well established that the rate of carbon uptake through the roots to the new shoots is quite low in plants, on the order of 0.6%. https://www.uni-hohenheim.de/~kuzyakov/K_SBB_2006_Glucose-Uptake-Maize.pdf Almost all of the sugar will be consumed by bacteria in the soil. This...

    L.E.D lighting

Bah! A HPS needs no supplement. LEDs are nothing but an expensive gimick at this stage of technology. High power LEDs are much less efficient than HPS watt for watt. Watt for watt LEDs put out more heat than HPS. Why the hate? Because plenty of us have wasted our money on them and don't want...

    A Turd In My Res.

Bogus thread! Anyone who has people over to party in the area of a grow op is a person begging to go to prison. About 12 years ago I was helping a friend set up a large ebb and flow table. I mentioned that urine can be used as a fertilizer for outdoor plants if you dillute the urine enough...

cAN U USE A MIRROR AS A REFLECTOR

Correct answer! Mirrors (I'm talking common mirrors you'll find in a house, not front surface or dielectric mirrors) have a reflectivity of around 70% while flat white paint is closer to 90% and the flat white paint is diffusing the light. Mylar is in the low 90s%.

    yellowing leaves mid-flower?

If my fan lower leaves aren't starting to yellow by about week 5 or so then I'll actually cut back the nitrogen even more. I expect a few of the lower fan leaves to die from low nitrogen levels (in first two weeks of budding I'll run nitrogen levels a little higher). Your plants look great!

    600watts to much?!? Apartment growers

I've done 600 watt in an apt by now just do 250. That 600 was just making me paranoid and the 250 can be set up in a small closet. I'm lucky that I live in a state where by law I'm given 48 hours written notice before anyone may enter my place. This gives plenty of time to tear down the...
