Bad News About LED vs HPS

LED yields more at equal wattage because a decent LED produces more useable photons per watt. It has nothing to do with pulsed output. The because even the best HPS is only ~30% efficient at converting watts to photons. Average LED is something like 40-47% efficient if properly cooled, the...

Geyapex LM-P4 Unboxing and Under the Hood

Could swear I read that they were case grounded, but if I'm wrong I'd like to know! I'd definitely run another leg to the ground if that's the case. (Not to mention provide that feedback...) As far as the semi-passive cooling, not a huge fan either (pun intended), but it seems to be good...

    Good lighting for 1 plant

Thought i mentioned 600w... well that's what you get for dipping into your own supply.... Completely agree 600w would be a good start for the space OP has, the only reason i suggested holding out for COBs is because of heat; if OP's place is anything like mine it can get toasty in the summer...

Geyapex LM-P4 Unboxing and Under the Hood

DankBudzzz has the LM-P6, which drives 6 COBs each at around 50W, plus 3 fans on a separate transformer and then there's the efficiency loss for the driver. That makes up for 360ish watts at the wall pretty easily I've got the LM-P4 which has only 4 cobs, I would expect it to draw 220-240 watts...

    Good lighting for 1 plant

My previous response to OP specifically suggested picking up a 400w-600w HPS if he had a way to deal with the heat it creates and save up a bit more for a COB setup if they didn't. Not sure how that's a negative thing. HPS still has it's place as a decent low-cost lighting solution.

    Good lighting for 1 plant

For most small scale (personal) growers like me... 3-4' tall. My current crop is just over 4' and the main issue I have is that i'm out of head space in my tent, penetration is fine. So yeah, a 1000w DE HPS will penetrate more being a point source and all that, not denying it. It's also not a...

    Good lighting for 1 plant

I'm not having that problem, i get good canopy penetration. But i guess that depends on what kind of COB and optic/reflector you use.

Geyapex LM-P4 Unboxing and Under the Hood

I'm on the same train of thought as DankBudzzz - a more expensive fixture or decent DIY fixture will outperform the LM-P4 I received. The construction is definitely superior to a Mars/Roledro light and the cost is not really all that high in comparison for the better quality. Yeah, it has a...

Geyapex LM-P4 Unboxing and Under the Hood

The fans do create some noise for sure, can't really hear it over my exhaust fan though. I'm a legal medical grower and my tent is not in my bedroom, so it's a non-issue for me. Its in the same neighborhood as the noise from my Mars 300s. I definitely understand the concern about the fans...

Geyapex LM-P4 Unboxing and Under the Hood

The ground from the wall connects to the chassis/case and the driver is mounted to the case. Because the driver's enclosure is also conductive and attached to ground, no further grounding is required. It's something to nit-pick over, but not vital. If you look inside fixtures from other light...

Yes it is, the ground from the wall is connected to the casing by the yellow-green wire leading to the exhaust fan mounting screw.

I saw that too but it's my bad, not Geyapex's. I'd moved the splice when taking a picture and it pulled just a hair. It's not really possible for that to contact metal even as pictured, 1mm is exposed and the heat sinks are too distant for anything to touch

Geyapex LM-P4 Unboxing and Under the Hood

Heya Rollitup. I received my test unit from Geyapex today and wanted to show off a bit, especially "under the hood". So, here's how it came, less the top foam: http://imgur.com/Q8bx1Z7 Nicely packed, there was even a small hole in the box and it didn't even come close to the unit. Now...

Geyapex Test Poll - Help me choose what to grow

Alrighty. The LM-P4 arrived today and in good condition and very fast. It was only 3 working days from confirmation of shipping, from Hong Kong to 1.5 hours outside of Toronto. As such, I'm calling this poll closed: DinaFem Blue Cheese Fem is the winner! The grow will commence two weeks from...

Bad News About LED vs HPS

however it is important to note that sunlight contains a significant portion of green spectra https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sunlight 500-530nm, given that nautural sunlight has an average color temp of 5500k-6500k. Our lighting is significantly different from that of natural sunlight and more...

    Good lighting for 1 plant

The question at that price point is: Can you deal with extra heat? If the answer is yes, grab a cheap iPower HPS setup - you can get the 400w version, though the ballast will probably only last a couple years at most. If the answer is no... wait it out, spend a bit more and start with a...

    Pests in my plant??

First step is to calm down, it's not an emergency. Don't flush, just back off on feeding. Also, post a clear picture of the holes.

    Pests in my plant??

Looks more like the very start of nutrient burn to me. Keep an eye out for ragged chewed up edges, holes, white/silver spots. Those are more indicative of a pest problem.

Bad News About LED vs HPS

I'm firmly in the LED camp too, otherwise I wouldn't have dropped ~$650 on my Veros. I'm just pointing out that every passing year and every product revision is pushing the technology towards a point where no one can reasonable deny that it's superior.
