Ive never had to put one in flower to tell, just gotta wait long enough.

Check the top growth for the telltail double hair. At 7wks you should be seeing something, the top tends to show earlier then old growth.

general rule is 1cup to ft^3, half that to be safe, double to be hot. Seems to work pretty well.
