my inline fan is to powerful

Because light dimmers are not designed to control fans, and prolonged use will fuck up your fan motor. It may also pose a fire risk.

    mh or cfl

If you can't afford a 400 HPS, you may as well forget about LEDs. The few models that are actually viable for growing weed cost a small fortune, and the cheaper ones aren't worth shit. If you are growing on a tight budget, CFLs are your best bet, although an HPS setup will not cost that much...

Advice needed from small HPS users?

If you are not planning on expanding, the 150 will be fine for a 2x1 area, and the heat should be no greater than the 150 CFL you are using, especially if you keep the ballast outside the grow area.

    Outdoor growing - UK

Plenty of people grow outside successfully in the UK. Unfortunately, i'm not one of them, so I can't advise you too much, but if you google for UK-specific sites ("UK420" for example), you should find some good help from people who know the score regarding UK outdoor grows.

    hps ballast help

Double check all conections, and make sure that the bulb is screwed tightly into place. Most ignition problems i've seen have been down to the bulb not being screwed in properly.

DIY: Power supply / computer fan hack

See my posts in this thread mate. It's possible you are only running 5 volts through your fans, due to the differences in wiring colours on the 4-pin molex connectors in the PSU. The Yellow wire is the 12 volt supply, not the red one, if using the 4 pin connector of the PSU. Either that, or...

    Powering some 12v fans

Many of my fans themselves only have a red and black wire. When connected to a 12 volt DC adapter (charger etc.) they will spin fast. However, when connected to the red/black side of a computer PSU, they will only spin at half speed, since the red wire on the PSU connector is +5 volts. But, if...

    Powering some 12v fans

You are aware that the 12 volt wire on a computer psu is the yellow one, not the red one, right? I remember being confused by this myself when I encountered the same issue with fans being slower on a PSU.

    2 12V PC fans wired to 1 12V charger

It will work fine, provided that the combined draw of the fans(measured in milliamps or amps) is less than the maximum current rating of the adapter. The current is usually labelled, on both fans and adapters. Also, be sure to wire your fans in parallel to prevent them being run at half speed...

    Budget of £150

£150 won't get you a fantastic setup, but it is do-able. I suggest that you spend the majority of your budget on a decent inline fan and carbon filter. For lighting, a cheap DIY cfl array will do for now, and you can upgrade to a HPS later when you have the funds to do so. However, if you can...

    Are my "extra" lights useless?

Personally, i'd strip those lights out of their fittings, and just hang the bare bulbs vertically at canopy level.

DIY: Power supply / computer fan hack

I'm fairly sure that you would only burn 400-500 watts if the demand for it was there (ie: shit loads of stuff connected to the power supply). PC fans only draw a minimal amount, like a few watts.

    rep for advice

The turning leaves may just be down to the fact that your mylar is hung loosely, and focusing the light in such a way that those particular leaves see it as the most intense source of light available to them.

making digital able to take micro(trichome) pic's !!

You can use the lens from an old CD player to get a nice up-close view. There's a thread here with details and pics. The clarity of the pic isn't the best, but you can definately see the individual trichs.
