it's always a good idea to check and adjust your PH both before AND after adding it to the rez. example: say your ph drifts up to around 7.0 If you PH your top off water to 6.0 and add say 0.5gal it may only lower your ph to around 6.5 instead of the 6.0 you're looking for. at the end of...

I've found that using larger volumes of water helps keep the ph stable. My 5gal buckets were all over the place, but my 10gal totes stay a hell of a lot more stable.

Boomer's got it right......NO LIGHT!!! 0% is the ONLY acceptable way to go. Light can cause algae which is not a battle you want to fight. Do it right from the beginning and you won't be going "oh shit! now what?!?" NO LIGHT
