My 1000w air-cooled mh is only 17 Inches from the canopy, its not hot at all. Is this good or are other growers able to get them even closer?

You can do this, Ive done this with a previous grow which I flowered the clones. Just pack the Cube in the soil very nice and tight, then water the soil and the rockwool excessivly till it drains. leave the rockwool visible on the surface and whenver its dry, water your plant.

Looks good, try and straighten out any of the Kinks you have in that Air-Hose Ducting, like in the middle of the two reflectors, its sagging pretty bad. You loose alot of air-flow, try and keep everything straight or curved as little as possible.
