I wouldnt personally. some strains( like the white widow Im growing) dont like to be topped or trimmed. I get a full harvest in 8 weeks flat. If you trim and top and trim some more, add another 6 weeks to your timeline depending on how stressed the plant can get. Only take the dead leaves...

They really should be in different containers. I did that once before and the stronger plant grew roots just underneath the topsoil and lurched out in all directions stealing life from the other 3 plants I had. Get them in 5 gal buckets or something. They really do compete.

If it turns yellow and lays limp on the plant, and its really ready to shed it, a slight breeze or a poke with your finger should dislodge it. The plant "cuts" it off itself. By no means can cutting fan leaves off be a good thing.
