    Compost Sac

I've created DIY compost bins before, but I thought this looked interesting. And still relatively cheap. I also like the idea that you can easily move the pile. Weed seeds can be killed in compost by the high heat created in the middle of the pile. But most often, they are killed by being...

    Compost Sac

I plan on trying out one of these soon... http://www.smartpots.com/compost-sak It's basically a tall 100 gallon smartpot designed for backyard composting. I think that the aeration, and possibility for excluding near 100% of light (kills the weeds), it will do quite nicely with added room for...

    why why why rockwool

After the plant roots, you can rinse off the coco and transplant to any media.

    why why why rockwool

I've had 100% germination with MJ in coco, and nearly 100% with all my garden crops. Rockwool can hold a lot of water, and if you're not accustomed to using it, it is easy to leave it too wet. Coco holds quite a bit of water as well, but it drains any excess water quite quickly, pulling a lot...

    transplant to drooping.... any ideas?!

Sunlight is significantly more intense than fluorescent lighting. It is quite likely that your plant is experiencing a bit of shock. In addition, fluorescent lighting doesn't penetrate the canopy nearly as much as sunlight does, so your plants are getting stronger light, and in more places...

    MOLASSES in AEROPONICS??

Plants do not absorb carbohydrates (sugars) through their roots. When adding molasses to soil and soilless mixes, it supplies food to beneficial microorganisms that do all sorts of things from breaking down soil particles into things the plant can absorb, to attaching to the roots and creating...

    tops are turning yellow

Before you go adding supplements, check your pH and ensure that is within the acceptable range. Most newbie nutrient deficiency problems are caused by nutrient lockout. Plants are only able to utilize nutrients within a specific pH range that is different for each nutrient. When the pH swings...

Super Tea and Budswel in coco

Hey all, I've heard of people adding organic amendments like guano and kelp to coco, and feeding it straight water. I think an easier solution would be using a pre-mixed dry solution like Super Tea. Has anyone tried this?

    GH 3 part in coco?

Many people have used the "Lucas Formula" of mixing the GH series, in conjunction with coco, with great results. You basically ditch the FLORA GRO, and use only FLORA BLOOM and FLORA GROW throughout veg and flower... http://lucasformula.com/ Coco has a tendency to 'steal' magnesium and...

    NFT check please

What is that material in the bottom of the channels? Is it fabric? I have never heard of anyone lining NFT channels with fabric. I would be interested to see how it turns out. I suspect that it might promote root rot. You will definitely need to deal with the transparency in a major way like...

Where are the dry nute lovers?

Also, what additives do you use if any? The maxi series is lacking in trace micro-nutrients. In coco, I pretreat with CalMag and I flush with dilute, pH balanced compost tea weekly.

Drain to waste in coco coir. Automated watering systems anyone?

I forgot to add, that I flush once a week with home made compost tea, diluted and pH balanced. It adds trace micro-nutrients, inoculates the root zone with microorganisms, and helps flush out unwanted salt buildup.

    Container size in DTW coco

I love not having to check pH. I don't have a RO system yet, so I still have to lower the pH a bit initially when I mix the nutes. But I don't touch it again for 2 weeks until I refill my res. Pretreat the coco with CalMag+ Add maxibloom and a bit of maxigrow and that's it. Minimal measuring...

Where are the dry nute lovers?

Here's why I love dry nutes... They are incredibly simple-- Ever wonder why dry nutes can be sold in 1 part formulas, while liquid nutes are in at least 2 part for each growth stage? If you mix GH grow and micro together directly before adding water, several of the minerals will chemically...

Drain to waste in coco coir. Automated watering systems anyone?

I've ruled out the blumats. They seem promising, but I hear they can clog with nutes, and have a tendency to get stuck open. All it takes is one stuck open valve to waste my entire res while I'm gone for a weekend. I've tossed aside the idea of restrictors because they clog easily...

    Container size in DTW coco

I've been using coco for a few years for indoor and outdoor MJ and vegetable gardening. For indoor MJ I have mostly used 5 gallon smartpots. At this size, the coco holds enough nutes that the plants need to be watered about once a day when they are in full flower. I have heard of people going...

Drain to waste in coco coir. Automated watering systems anyone?

I've been looking into the tropf blumats and they do seem promising. I see two caveats... Based on the way they work, i don't think that they would water enough to have waste come out the bottom. This would be amazing for water and nutrient saving, but would not create any runoff to facilitate...

Drain to waste in coco coir. Automated watering systems anyone?

I've become a huge fan of drain to waste in coco. (For the skeptical, drain to waste does not have to be wasteful. In fact I find it saves water if done properly.) Here's the setup... 6, 5 gallon smartpots in a bathtub, filled with coco coir. Clones started in coco coir, and transplanted into...

Is aeration necessary in a resevioir when the solution is circulated well?

I'm doing drain to waste, so the nutrients are not recycled. Most people assume that huge amounts of nutrient solution are wasted during drain to waste. Unless the system is designed poorly, this is not true. Coco holds a high quantity of fluid. In the type of system I use, the medium is...

Is aeration necessary in a resevioir when the solution is circulated well?

Hey all, I switched to drain to waste coco a few years ago, for most of my indoor and outdoor MJ and vegetable crops. (I still have quite a few soil projects outside) Even my Native American 3-sisters garden is in hydro. Some of my watering is automated (usually my MJ) and some I continue to...
