You should have watered thoroughly prior to planting the seed. That way the seedling will have most of the water it needs for the first week or two. Doing it that way you are at less risk of overwatering. As for watering at this point. Don't follow the traditional methods until its well...

Ditch your lights and switch to LED. Its alot more costly, but they produce waaaay less heat which means less ventilation is needed. LED+fan speed controller so you can run the extractor fan at a minimum setting for smell filtration. I just switched from 400W hps to LED's because of this.

Just a word of warning mate. 400w HPS in a closet is going to give you temperature problems. Been there done that. Your going to need an extractor fan running full blast just to keep it cool. Especially if your venting back into the closet. That exhaust fan is going to sound like a jet engine...
