what is a good possibly cheaper fert that i can get outside of a grow shop. i have a nursery nearby but no grow shops. i want to stay away from MG unless someone has a better method. someone told me to use SOS all the way through?

i have a 3in computer fan hooked up to one of those big brick 6v batteries. one on each plant. you think i need to put them in smaller pots? also ive noticed that only the top half of the soil gets dry the bottom stays moist.
