I'm using a pc fan and it's doing the job with no problems so I would think the 4" fan would be more powerful than my pc fan and that it would do the job just fine thus making the 6" fan overkill. You might get these fans cheaper at home depot when you factor in any tax and/or shipping...

Go ahead and use it. I would!!! It's not going to turn into something bad in two years. Might have lost some potency but other than that you should be fine. I buy extra all the time so end up using older soil now and then with no problems.
