wait, what was wrong with ron paul again?

Changing the country too fast would send it into a tailspin, and Ron Paul wants to get rid of a lot of things that people like, like Social Security and NASA. Apparently the Constitution doesn't explicitly allow for an Air and Space agency. :p You can tell who the bitter Paul supporters here...

    Barack's Windfall Reversal

Obviously, he said this when gas prices were $4.25 a gallon. Now that it's down to $2.00 or less, oil companies aren't raking in the dough anymore and don't have the windfall profits to tax, and average people are able to afford gas again. Being a good decision-maker means being able to change...

Ok, if you want to call what they have after taxes profit, then they're taxed on net income. I said a company doesn't have to pay sales tax on stuff they buy for resale. Of course there are tariffs, but eliminating these would just put even more American businesses out of business. And true...

Other countries have problems, but they still spend a lot less on health care. France actually has a pretty good model, check out this article: http://www.businessweek.com/globalbiz/content/jun2007/gb20070613_921562.htm This "fair" tax only gets rid of Federal income tax. Most of these...

    On Wealth Redistribution(Socialism)

Companies don't pay sales tax on most things they purchase, provided they're raw materials or things they will eventually be selling. Sales tax is paid only by the end user. They do have to pay property taxes, but I was talking about business income taxes. And besides, property taxes pay for...

I, for one, refuse to drink Obama's Kool-Aid

So because he would have left the church in a hypothetical scenario, that constitutes disowning Rev. Wright? Even if that constitutes disowning him, he said he couldn't before Wright made an ass out of himself on national TV. If I say I can't quit my job, and then win the lottery, and then...

What are some good liberal books?

ElBarto - yeah, I'd recommend either of Obama's books as well, if nothing else because he's going to be our next president. Also, is that Ayn Rand in your sig? And wasn't she kind of the opposite of a virgin? :p

I, for one, refuse to drink Obama's Kool-Aid

In 2004, he was a state senator, and only had influence over Illinois state laws. If he decriminalized marijuana at a federal level, that would take away the states' rights to regulate it, and I can see why he could be opposed to that. So it's not necessarily a contradiction. The line I've...

I, for one, refuse to drink Obama's Kool-Aid

Obama has supported decriminalization in the past, which means not giving jail time for possession. He didn't make a big deal out of it in the primaries, but there were a lot of more important issues. But he didn't actually sign a pledge, which was the thing i was pointing out. I did say it...

    On Wealth Redistribution(Socialism)

A company pays taxes only on PROFIT. Profit is gross income minus expenses. Investments in the future of the company, say, a new branch office, count as expenses, and are not taxed. Individual income taxes don't work like that though. What we're trying to avoid are situations like in the...

And what if they don't? Are they just fucked? Should they just be dumped out in the street like in third world countries? These days, almost any surgery would send an ordinary person to the poorhouse. My dad had a simple hernia operation, and that alone cost like $10,000. Honestly, I think it...

The income tax is graduated so that the rich pay a larger share of their income than the poor do. Granted, a lot of our paychecks go toward taxes, but at the lower end it's mostly social security and medicare, so eventually we get that back anyway. You do realize that if your national sales...

I guess the guy offers another explanation of his device here: http://www.rexresearch.com/christie/christie.htm But he confuses force and energy in a major way. Easy for a non-technical person to confuse the two, but inexcusable for a so-called inventor. Then he gives a formula that...

You believe everything on TV? This has "scam" written all over it. They've been saying they're almost ready to release their product since 2001, and for some strange reason they have yet to do so. Oh, and here's the kicker, they're recruiting individual investors to invest money to help them...

Ooh, it runs on MAGNETS! Must be pretty high tech! There's no such thing as magnetic energy, only electromagnetic energy. And you're wasting your time. The energy has to come from somewhere.

Interesting... Iraq is pretty high on the list. It's actually quite a plausible solution. We can generate electricity from any number of sources, including wind, hydro, solar, nuclear, etc. None of these produce any real emissions.
