    thats good to know for plant growing. for mushroom growing I always used boiled water and never got a problem. But its differenet situations, i was thinking to boil more to ensure it was sterile. I was thinking maybe something was in his water, but i see now thats not the case.

    try using distilled water next time and see if you get a spike. tap water can vary in 'nutrient' levels by week, so i think its that... perhaps boil your water first, and try that.
