I was told to test the runoff. Make sure your water is ph'd correctly and then when you water test the runoff with a cheap ph test kit.

I have the same issue i didnt prune at all and the tops of my plants are budding nice and the bottoms just a little. One solution for this is when it comes time to harvest i believe you can harvst th top colas and leave the immature bottoms move the light closer and let them flower another week...
