new set up...what do you all think??

Yours is a tough case. Quite frankly I don't know how you can pull it off with such a small box/short height and still get enough yield to make it worthwhile. I mean, you can do what I said earlier, but you'll still have very small plants at harvest and will probably fight heat issues etc. all...

    high wattage cfl or hps

Okay ... I misread the post. I thought he was asking about the preferred light for flowering when in fact he was asking about a full grow. So, I'll semi-agree with you then. :-| HPS are not top-notch lamps for vegetative growth, true, and CFLs will outperform them during veg if you have a...

I'm sure they must have something along that line ... you should be able find a good FoxFarm soil anyway.

    Let's talk about watering techniques

Outside of Canada, I'm not sure if it's available. If you live in Canada most hydroponics stores carry it and even some hardware-type stores like Canadian Tire carry some of their mixes. I've never seen ProMix HP or BX outside of hydroponics stores but who knows ... I often use ProMix Potting...

    high wattage cfl or hps

Well, I was speaking of HIDs in general, but I would argue the point regardless. An HPS lamp in fact emits an excellent spectrum for flowering cannabis, and that, in combination with its far superior penetration makes it a much better choice.

Since your plants are a foot tall and you are using a 400 watt light I would recommend blooming now. 400 watts is fine for growing, but in reality, it's not a lot; this means that your plants could triple in size during flowering alone - for certain they will double. (The more light you have...

    Growing outdoor.. side lighting???

Putting your plants on the roof of your house is even better than adding CFLs to an outdoor grow. That way, you see, they are closer to the sun.

    Let's talk about watering techniques

Ahhhh .... one of the smart ones. :hump: Now, I don't want to jump on anyone's parade, but moisture meters cause some people to fuss and fart over their plants all the time and ultimately over water them or something else not so brilliant anyway. Not that anyone here would do that, but some...

    high wattage cfl or hps

You don't get the depth with CFLs that you do with HIDs - that's what it really comes down to. By depth I mean the distance from the bulb that the light remains effective for growing plants properly.

    watering in flower-how often?

If you pour water into the container until it comes out the drain holes, all of the soil will be moistened. There is no need to water from the bottom using this method, in fact, personally, I can't imagine why anyone would do it at all. If you don't have faith in the soak and dry method (as I...

    No. It'll decrease your yield.

new set up...what do you all think??

Yikes! That's not much height ... your plants could triple in height during bloom (up to triple that is) which doesn't leave any room for lights ... Although they may not triple (depends a large amount on lighting), it's best to expect it so you are prepared. So, somehow you have to reduce...

Is your grow box 3 feet deep, as in 3 feet of soil, or is that the total height you have?

    cloning medium

If you don't like Rockwool or Rapid Rooters and so forth, you can try this if it interests you. I've done it in the past and it works fine. I do wonder why you don't like rockwool though; it's quite good for cloning, but, to each his own. Anyhow, here's another option you can try if you don't...

    Help with lighting for flowering.

Obviously more light never hurts, but since you have to buy the envirolight, it's not necessary to do so. Now, that may depend on the size of the MH you have. I'm assuming it's 400 watts or greater. If it's a 250, the envirolight would be a good idea. (Although there are other options of...

matth82003 said: I've got a couple of questions: 1) If my plant doesn't have any female nodes, I'm guessing it's gonna give me seeds in return. Do I germinate those seeds and start from scratch? Incorrect. Seeds are produced in the female plant after being pollinated by a male plant. (You...

    Welcome New Members!

Just a thought that might help you ... I have found that one of the easiest ways for beginners to tell if a plant is a male is to look for 'bananas.' These are quite obvious when they develop and really do look similar to a banana 'bunch.' With more experience you will be able to tell...

    watering in flower-how often?

Stormfront ... this idea of watering every so many days is ridiculous to me. I can't figure out for the life of me why people think this is a good idea? You water when the plants need it - and not before. Do you want healthy plants with the highest yield possible? When you water, pour until...
