With the quick-soak method, room-temperature is fine...I always push them, pointed end up, 2 cm into the medium so that the shoot won't have the shell stuck to the cotyledons...heat from the lights does the rest...

I just soak them overnight in tapwater with a little H2O2 added and plant them next day ─ it gives me better results than the paper-towel method did. And while it's tempting to poke around in the medium for a look, you can easily damage the emerging shoot below...
