If the bucket is a light color it most likely will let light in, and light in ur res = alge and slow root growth. What i do with ALL of my containers that hold any water or nutrient solution is put foil tape on it so absolutely no ligh gets in. Other than that a dark bucket might abosb a little...

or at least go buy some foil tape and tape the sides of the box so they are perfectly flat... wrinkles cause heat spot, and heat spots are no bueno! With such a small setup it might not be worth it to get a roll of mylar, although if u think ur going to expand in the future then get the mylar...

I wouldn't trim the bottom leaves, some people do and some people dont... the general conclusion is that it they are >50% dead then you can cut them.... either way make sure no dead plant material gets in the res or near your roots! that stuff just killed my 1st op :cry:

Im by no means an expert in HID lights (I dont even use em), and dont take this the wrong way... but isnt the whole point of a cool tube that the air can easily flow when forced through there? I would just nix the cooltube if you dont want to use vents/fans and just run the reflector...
