my bin lid keeps popping off!?!?

Use a heavier duty bin. I saw someone around here use a ratcheting strap (the kind to secure a load in a truck) around the middle of a bin. It seemed to help stop the bin from deforming. - Jiji

    Best 8" inline fan

Different types of fans have different characteristics and are better in certain applications. What are you trying to do? Just move air? pull air through a lot of ducts? pull air through filters? - Jiji

    Exchange rates per minute?

What @redi jedi said. The rules of thumb are based on nonsense or HVAC trends with humans in rooms. Plants aren't people, and only slowly change characteristics of air. Exchange air for temp control, humidity control, whatever that requires. Also, if you exchange and recirculate air in your...

    LEP lighting

Where did you see that? At a trade show? - Jiji From Luxim (who makes Gavitas emitters) http://www.luxim.com/products/grow-lighting

    Gavita pro remote setup

I don't know the answer but I would email Gavita and ask what the difference between the digistar 1000 and the pro 1000 ballasts are. I would guess the digistar is a lower frequency but I don't know. - Jiji

Male in the flower room, oh no!

Yeah I can. It was near an exhaust fan, maybe the whole room won't get pollinated. I don't have enough in veg to refill the room up, so I might just go with it and see what happens. - Jiji

Male in the flower room, oh no!

Hey, I've been growing for some time, but this is the first time I've ever did this. I had a large male plant spraying pollen in the flower room. Stupid mistake. Not sure really what to do now. Its only week one in flower for the rest of the plants, and most look like they are in preflower...

    setup for reverse osmosis filter

He said he was using a whole house filter. I assume it is 50 micron. Like I said I never heard of anyone using submicron filtration before RO unit. I suppose I have seen 1 micron. Not sure if this in the real world this causes more harm than help. I have a custom 200 GPD waste water stageing...

Have any of you DIY COB Growers finished a crop under 1000W DE HPS? - POLL

I've been rocking Gavitas for a few years now (since before they were cool.) I'm happy with them. I would like to try a CXB3590 setup. I'm always so friggin busy, plus I have a hard time making up my mind on how large to go, and how to customize. My personal opinion is that Gavita is geared...

    setup for reverse osmosis filter

Never saw anyone use submicron filtration on an ro unit. 5-10 seems to be the standard. I would think you would need a lot of pressure for that. Also whats your water pressure set at? 40/60? You could just use an ro unit with a sink adapter, but you should have a water softener. No need for a...

    MH vs HPS lights

Nice studies. But yeah, MH for veg compared to HPS, will make a leafy bushier plant with closer node spacing. - Jiji Edit: not saying MH is superior, just if you want that sort of thing

    MH vs HPS lights

you get tighter node spacing with a metal halide in veg HPS is fine the whole grow though. - Jiji

New to Everything. My attempt at RDWC. Couple Questions

I would recommend not using rockwool. It says too damp. Too easy to get stem rot. - Jiji

    Massive farm

Sounds like a big farm, but in a municipal water? In a city?...... Sounds cheap for a commercial ro unit. Also they are generally 4:1 or 3:1 waste water. I don't know about the commercial units. I know your just brainstorming, but you ever grow a plant in a 55 gallon drum? I've seen mega...

    8 inch intake / 12 inch exhaust

No its not backwards. I always like to do passive intake if I can. A 12 inch fan moves a lot of air. You might not need that intake fan. - Jiji

    8 inch intake / 12 inch exhaust

This seems to be a common mantra about grow rooms. But I don't buy it. Whats it based on? The only answers people have make no sense. If you exchange air, you should be exchanging air according to your temp or possibly humidity(which would be less likely). Plants use very little co2 in a room...

    8 inch intake / 12 inch exhaust

If cold air hits the ceiling (or anything) in a warm room, if its cold enough air, it will cool the object below the dew point. Condensation will build, and you'll have moisture on that spot. - Jiji

    Grandpa's back in the game

I like non-fan cooled ballasts. Luma-tek. solis tek, gavita, etc Apollo and Ipower will get the job done though. And I also like phat carbon filters. - Jiji

wiring a relay to control fan speed

you should be able to do this with just a 120v spdt relay, and a cheap line voltage thermostat I'm not an electrician so there’s that, I'd check on an electrical forum or something. Should be pretty straight forward wiring. - Jiji
