The man who knew too little. (Need experienced opinions more then facts)

hahahahahaha I was going to say something more about how I didnt think his "advice" could get any worse, but I am just going to bow to the master. Thats one of the best comebacks I have seen all year :)

    Do we have bigger problems?

Its a very common myth, but I have grown with all the major brands of nutes over the years and the only time I have brown roots is when there are problems with bacteria in the system. 100% healthy roots are pure white. That said, lots of folks have very good grows even with slightly brown...

    Advice for 1st DWC

That water temp is actually on the low side. Your plants will tend to grow slowly. 68-70F is ideal. If your water i staying that cold, you will very likely be fine. Just check the roots every so often to be sure they are not turning dark brown, smelly. slimy. If things start to go south...

    Do we have bigger problems?

Nutes dont stain roots. Thats a common misconception. Those brown areas look like root rot to me. Do they smell? Are the roots in those areas soft and easy to pull apart? The plants look ok, and most of the roots dont look that bad, so it looks like you caught it early. I would cut away the...

Its not personal. You just keep posting things that I strongly disagree with, and believe will cause new growers big problems. You have to admit, I am not the only one who feels that way. Pretty much every thing you have posted recently has been debunked and/or strongly criticized by someone...

    Aerate water for soil feeds

In soil, oxygenation isnt an issue the same way it is in hydro. Its good to leave the water sit to get rid of the chlorine, but oxygen levels will not go down to any degree you need to worry about. When the water gets into the soil, assuming you are not over watering, it gets spread out over...

Oxygen generator vs air stone? Concepts and DIY approaches.

LOL That email is pretty much science free. Plus, they cant even spell electrolysis correctly and thats their whole gig. First, evaporation does not release hydrogen, or oxygen separately. Its just water molecules. There is zero dissociation involved. It takes electrical energy to dissociate...

No thanks. Im done with anything organic in my hydro grows. Yeah, all of that stuff is known to work fine in soil. Not so much in hydro for some reason.

    Best ph pen >$200

I also have an Apera PH 60 and like it a lot. Ive only had it 6 months or so but it has not need calibration yet, and I use it almost every day. Replacement probes are reasonable at $35. Plus, you can get an ORP probe if you want. I had the cheaper PH 20 without a replaceable probe, and it...

    Advice for 1st DWC

Wait. Im confused. First you say not to use organic nutes, then you say you are going to try comfrey liquid - which is about as organic as you can get?

    Advice for 1st DWC

I would strongly recommend you not use Fox Farm nutes, or any nute that has any organic components in it, in hydro . Im not talking organic as in health food. I mean anything derived or made from anything plant or animal based. That includes things like kelp, worm castings, enzymes etc etc...

The man who knew too little. (Need experienced opinions more then facts)

COBs used to be the 'best new thing' several years ago, but strips have come way down in price, and up in efficiency, and availability. There are also several mfg's making sheet led's that are nice, but more $$. If you are into DIY and building your own lights, I like this guy, but there are...

Maintaining pH in reservoir with organic nutrients and drain-to-waste in coco

There are several recent threads in the general hydro/aero section covering sterile rez choices, chlorine ppm levels, and good nute choices for hydro that are not organically based. Im a big fan of Jacks 321 hydro. Its easy, been around forever, used all over the world - including many huge...

The man who knew too little. (Need experienced opinions more then facts)

Well, if you think experience always trumps facts, your in trouble, but on the other hand this is the 'net, so opinions are all your likely to get anyways ;) a) Yes to all - maybe. It depends on how badly you screw it up. I think you are more likely to fail spectalularly in hydro than soil, but...

    New 4x4 grow some advice?

You have to watch PH, PPM and runoff or disposal of old or excess water no matter how you grow - including soil. There can be more runoff with hempy's than soil, but thats not usually a big deal. Im sure there are lots of solutions to that in the thread linked above.

    New 4x4 grow some advice?

I think hempy buckets are easier than soil in many ways. In soil, you always have the worry about over watering. Most new growers over water, which can cause major issues. With hempy buckets, its impossible to over water. You can water every hour and it wont hurt anything - except your wallet...

    New 4x4 grow some advice?

I dont hink brand matters much, but size does. https://herbsathome.co/what-is-perlite-good-for/ You dont want really small particles or the jumbo size. I would recommend medium or coarse particle sizes, with a slight preference for coarse. One of the main benefits of hempy buckets - maybe...

Maintaining pH in reservoir with organic nutrients and drain-to-waste in coco

I dont think the plants will care if you switch - just be sure to use the same EC, PH, temps to avoid shocking them. It wont hurt to flush the old nutes out - just be sure to do as above and keep EC, temp, PH constant. I would for sure clean the crap out of the rez, pumps, stones, filters, etc...
