Why Would You NOT Grow Autoflowers? — The Commitment-Shy Hobbyist

Yeah I'm growing a Dinafem Critical 2.0 and a couple of the Buddha Assortment (Just looking at the developing buds, I think one is "Syrup.")

    Spider Mites … or Spiders?

    Yep. None of that, luckily.

Day 21... starting to flower black jack auto.

Grab them gently and push them behind nearby foliage so that they get pulled out of the sunpath of the budsite you want to favor. You can move most leaves at least 60° off their axis without their stems breaking, if you're gentle. The sawtooth edges interlock with each other and hold things in...

    Spider Mites … or Spiders?

Thanks to all. I did take another look with higher magnification, and I'm pretty sure it was spiders. However, on my closer inspection, I discovered that [expletive deleted] CATERPILLARS had taken up residence in three buds and were merrily chewing and shitting the buds into uselessness. So I...

    Spider Mites … or Spiders?

I've been noticing little strands of webs on my plants (8 in a small grow area, all in 5-gal pots) and feared I had spider mites. However, it might be that I just have spiders. The grow area is surrounded by decorative vegetation and herbs, including one large Rosemary bush called "Spiderholme"...

Yeah! It's Bud Worm Season. Pics

I found one of these today, nesting in a (formerly) Big Fat Bud. It's the first time in my life I actually wished for the extinction of an entire species.

Day 21... starting to flower black jack auto.

I'm told 42°F rather than freezing. I don't know that for a fact, but many, many years ago I worked for a government seed bank, and we used 42°F there as well.

Day 21... starting to flower black jack auto.

I wouldn't trim anything, but tuck the fan leaves behind or under the budsites so they'll grow more vigorously.

    Foxtailing: Chop Now or Later?

And is it a bad thing to let the regrowth go? Doesn't that increase yield? Given that I'm not seeing any appreciable numbers of amber trikes, isn't the smart thing to do to just let them continue to add volume?

    Foxtailing: Chop Now or Later?

Have you ever seen a new flush of calyxes, weeks after it appeared they had stopped increasing their number?

    Foxtailing: Chop Now or Later?

I've observed quite closely and what I have, I think, is spiders, rather than spider mites. The grow area is surrounded by other plantings liberally carpeted in their webs. One of them is a sizeable rosemary bush we call "Spiderholme" because of its large arachnid population. I haven't seen any...

    Foxtailing: Chop Now or Later?

Yep. You can see I took the main cola down (due to a combination of sunburn and impatience). This second one is her little sister, about 3 weeks younger. Substantially purpled in the sun, but also no amber trikes and now foxtailing.

    Foxtailing: Chop Now or Later?

I have an auto Jack Herer x AK47 outdoors in Northern California, which is now at 98 days since germination. Being an auto, it flowered at about day 35, so I'm now at 63 days of flower. According to the seed bank, these should be done and dusted by now, even though I'm learning that sativas...

    FastBuds Pineapple Express Outdoor Grow

It's considerably bigger than mine, but I don't see any budsites.

Well, the picture above of mine at 23 days (outdoors) may or may not be a useful reference.

Why Would You NOT Grow Autoflowers? — The Commitment-Shy Hobbyist

And I couldn't agree more. Technique-wise, I am not worthy. But what I consider worthwhile might be good enough after all. I've been on this site just a few days, and it seems that the range of topics covers the most casual growers up to seasoned pros and beyond. The last time I tried growing...

Why Would You NOT Grow Autoflowers? — The Commitment-Shy Hobbyist

Seed bank spec'ed 'em out at 20-30 grams per plant, and I came in at 29. Given what I'm attempting here, I'm not entirely sure why I should be disappointed. Certainly I expect that my technique will improve over time, but should I be crying into my beer instead?

Why Would You NOT Grow Autoflowers? — The Commitment-Shy Hobbyist

Err . . . I stuck mine in pots outside and watered them. After some time, I cut them down and smoked them and they made me high. What am I missing here that's not 'easy?'

Why Would You NOT Grow Autoflowers? — The Commitment-Shy Hobbyist

Well, I ride a bicycle nearly every day, but I don't race. Similarly, I garden, but I don't garden extremely. My little operation, which completely fills my need to nurture something, also produces more quality weed than I can smoke. All in, my investment has been something under $300 for...
