In a dire situation, You can top the plant if it gets too tall during the first 2 weeks of flower without issue. After the first 2 weeks of flower, use LST. Topping will add about 1 week to the flower cycle.

During veg, you can just use the 6500k bulbs on top of the plants. They will stay short and bushy as long as you keep them about 2-3 inches from the tops.

You can pick up one of those bags of Sta-Green soil in the yellow bag at Lowes. Mix it 4 to 1 with white coarse perlite. That has never failed me. Espoma organic garden lime works to keep pH up when you start the nutrients.
