I have no experience with cool tubes, but I know 400w HPS would absolutely torch almost any plant 6 inches away, or touching the bulb.

I can attest that waiting until the "foxtailing" (didn't know that was the name for it) makes for an extremely good stone if you're used to cutting a little earlier than that. I never waited as long as I did for this past plant that I had, but once I saw the foxtailing I knew it was about time...

If you were talking about some huge pot, like a 20 gallon one or more, then I'd say yeah you'd probably be able to accomplish this, but not in a 12" in diameter pot. I don't even think I'd think about trying it in something that small.

It's just like big plants in my opinion, it has to dry out somewhat before watering again. Too much water or sitting in a puddle of water is no good.

Yeah. I plan on leaving my mother plant in my room for at least a year, maybe longer. Already had to start topping her after about 3 1/2 months. Going to be a fun sight to see next April-May. I'll probably let it go until next summer and then I'll bud her out. :D
