i like to top my plants a few times actually. normally when they have good vigor (growing quickly at constant rate) around 7" i'll top them then again when they get around 12-14" then again a bit after that. there is no right or wrong time to do it obviously dont do it when they are babbies...

i dont have experience with cfl, but 250w cfl would be very very cool comparable but with a lot more light you would increase your yield by ALOT

you want fresh nutes every week for a lot of reasons. #1 reason is that the plants dont take all the stuff in that water! lets say you have 10 parts of N P K right if the plant eats 8 parts N 2 parts p and k that would leave 2N 8P 8K right. if u add another 10 of each with ur nutes u add...

400w CMH is your best bet in your situation. very affordable with no heat, and will out yield LED and CFL easily

i wouldnt veg very long at all. just enough to establish good root base, and fill in a bit. you don't wanna be too crowded to where they are fighting for light
