My first vertical grow after 20 years of indoor gardening

I never got around to giving a final report on this grow, so here it is. My apologies for not doing it sooner, but I moved out of the place where I was living right after I finished this crop. My suspicion about improved yield was confirmed. The vertical grow produced a very good yield, better...

Want to Know If Your Plants are Finished?

Those pics look good. I am able to get quite a bit of info from them. I never go by hair coloration. It's all about trichrome development and color. When more than half of the trichromes have turned milky or opaque at the tips, they're done. It all comes down to personal preference at that...

    Heat/Light Stress

It looks like the soil might be a little "hot". Flush a couple of times and it should be fine. The plant looks okay for the most part, so it's probably not a big deal. If the dead spot keeps growing, all you can do is keep flushing and/or transplant into some commercial potting soil. I've had...

    1st grow 1000w hps at 50%

I agree. Bigger pots are necessary when growing with a 1000w. I veg in 5 gal pots for 10-14 days before I switch to 12/12. The problem here is that the OP has already switched to 12/12. I would not recommend transplanting at this point. It will slow growth and the plants won't get much bigger...

Attain TR residual. How long does it persist?

I'm wondering if anyone here with experience with Attain TR knows how long it persists on plants, walls, etc.? I've heard conflicting info. My plants still have another 5-6 weeks to go, by the way. Some background..... This is the first time I've used evil poison to get rid of mites in many...

My first vertical grow after 20 years of indoor gardening

In my 20 years of growing I've often found genetics to be the most difficult aspect of the whole process. Fortunately for me, I live in an area where a lot of people grow. I know several other growers and we all collaborate, share genetics and techniques. Still, it can take years to find...

My first vertical grow after 20 years of indoor gardening

I'm on day 17 and some of the Girl Scouts are topping out at 54" or 4.5'. The bulb is about 18" below the tallest branches and I'm hoping to leave it where it is. The tall branches are not bending inward, so am I correct to assume that they're getting enough light, or should I be bending them as...

    Dutch Passion Blueberry

In a closet, it's ideal to have a floor level intake fan and a ceiling level exhaust fan. This usually does the trick. I would try this before getting an AC unit. As long as you're keeping the temps below 86 you should be okay. Personally, I like to keep it at 80 or lower.

My first vertical grow after 20 years of indoor gardening

Here's my week 3 update. Lately, my temps have been maxing out at 80 degrees. Lows have been near 70. The environment in my rooms doesn't fluctuate too much, but since fall is coming on the temps will lower a bit. In the winter I typically see temps in the 60-75 range. The keep the humidity at...

My first vertical grow after 20 years of indoor gardening

Thanks for the advice. Mine are more like 14-16" away from the bulb, but I'm using a 1000w. I also had to expand the circle a bit last night due to plant growth. I did a bit of trimming, but I'm trying to do as little trimming as I can get away with. This is contrary to what I would do in a...

    400w vertical... Number of plants.

Not necessarily. Since the radius of a vertical grow is fairly limited, the square footage is mostly dictated by plant height. If your plants are really short (2' or less), it might be a better idea to grow horizontally. The 2 equations we are working with here are A=2πrh (vertical) and...

    400w vertical... Number of plants.

I concur with this. I currently have 8 plants in 5 gal pots that are surrounding a 1000W bulb and that's almost too many plants given that they're all over 3' tall. If I tried to put more pots in the circle the interior diameter would be too large and the plants would be too far away from...

My first vertical grow after 20 years of indoor gardening

Thanks for the info about the cooling system. Fortunately, I'm not having any heat issues. The floor level fan does a good job of displacing the heat directly upwards and away from the plants. If anything, the ambient temperature has been reduced just a bit because of the absence of the hood and...

    Barney's pineapple chunk vertical grow.

From what I'm seeing here it's either a light leak, or a pheno that takes a looooong time to finish and may not be ideal for indoor (despite what the seed company said). In that case, the 400w light will only exacerbate the tendency towards small fluffy nugs that will be an ass pain to trim. If...

My first vertical grow after 20 years of indoor gardening

Right, I can't see them either. Let me try something else. I'll copy the text from above and repost.... Today I installed the second crossbar. As you can see in the pic below, the plants were starting to lean is as they get taller. After the crossbars were installed the circle is more...

My first vertical grow after 20 years of indoor gardening

Yeah, here's to trying new things. We'll see, but if this goes well I will be ditching the hoods altogether. The only bummer about the vertical bulb is the glare. Be careful people and WEAR DARK GLASSES when you're working with the light on. Long sleeves might also be a good idea. Even with...

My first vertical grow after 20 years of indoor gardening

I'm in the midst of my first vertical grow right now, but have 20 years of indoor experience. Don't ask me why I didn't try this sooner as I have no good answer. In the pic are 8 Girl Scout Cookies in 5 gal containers from same mom. The interior part of the circle is about 3' in diameter. I...
