Some strains do this, harvest on trichomes not pistils. But ya ive had multiple strains just jump start new pistil growth, normally in more sativa dominant strains ive atleast noticed, cant confirm.

Try transplanting, indica dominant tends to bush out more and vertical growth is slower. Depends on wether or not you want bushy compact plants or tall stretchy ones. Bushier plants are also more compact with flowering site, giving longer/compact colas depending on how big you get them.

One strain I used called sage did that, I believe it was due to stress and or to little light, overall the plant was unhealthy and it did that, direct clone of that plant had not done that and it finished nicely, its an enviromental problem for sure.

Obviously bigger plant is a bigger yield, but what you have said is valid and as long as it wasnt butchered to bad it shouldnt be affected greatly but most people harvest all at once and then expect to regrow thus why I said to not do it, also bigger plants overall are easier to pull this off...
